The equipment I use for examinations and procedures

A correct diagnosis takes more than looking at the skin. Below I explain in plain language the main devices I use during examinations and procedures, and what they mean for you.

To see what the eye cannot

Every examination has the same goal: to find the exact cause of your concern. The devices help with that, but we always make the treatment decision together.

For examination

Painless methods that refine the diagnosis and take only a few minutes.

Dermatoscope

It shows the skin magnified and under special light. I can assess moles, spots, acne lesions and vascular changes down to details invisible to the naked eye. This helps to tell types of pigmentation apart and to spot a suspicious mole in time.

  • Painless
  • Moles and spots
  • Acne

Trichoscope

It shows the hair and scalp in a magnified image. I can see hair thickness, the condition of the follicles and inflammation on the scalp. It is the key tool for identifying the type of hair loss and tracking how treatment is working.

  • Painless
  • Hair loss
  • Scalp

Wood’s lamp

Under special ultraviolet light, some fungal infections and pigment changes glow in a different colour. It allows a painless assessment of pityriasis versicolor, vitiligo and the depth of pigmentation in just a few minutes.

  • A few minutes
  • Pigmentation

Laboratory microscope

I check a scraping taken from the skin, a nail or a hair under the microscope. It is a simple and accurate way to confirm or rule out a fungal infection. When the diagnosis is precise, you do not end up applying the wrong cream.

  • Accurate diagnosis
  • Fungal infection

For procedures

Procedures without incisions, carried out only when indicated.

Microneedling device

Very fine needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin and stimulate its own collagen production. It is used as a course, with sterile single-use cartridges, for acne scars, stretch marks and enlarged pores.

  • As a course
  • Sterile cartridges
  • Acne scars

Cryotherapy

Freezing with liquid nitrogen is used for warts, papillomas and some benign growths. The procedure takes a few minutes, needs no incision and is usually done without local anaesthetic.

  • No incisions
  • A few minutes
  • Warts and papillomas

Which examination do you need?

We decide that together at your appointment. I start from your concern, not from the device, and suggest only the examination you actually need.
