Stretch marks
The difference between new and old stretch marks, and what creams and procedures can do.
Stretch marks (striae) are marks that form in the middle layer of the skin when it stretches quickly: during adolescence, pregnancy, weight changes or after hormonal medicines. Some stretch marks do not respond to creams, and there is a reason for that.
Two types of stretch marks
- New, red-purple stretch marks: still in the inflammatory stage and respond well to treatment
- Old, whitish stretch marks: formed in the deeper layers and hard to change with cream alone
What options there are
New, red lines respond better to topical products prescribed by a doctor, such as tretinoin or hyaluronic acid. For deeper stretch marks we use a personal approach and procedures, above all microneedling. The goal is not to erase stretch marks completely but to make them less visible.
